Steampunk Reaper Scythe by AetherAnvil Steampunk Reaper Scythe by AetherAnvil
Dark alleys, foggy nights. Clothed in black, a nightly fright! Jack the Reaper, scientist gone mad, has come to the city, to punish the bad! Wielding a mighty blade, that shifts its form, there is nary an opponent, that won't squirm like a worm!

This is a modular steampunk weapon that can be broken into smaller weapons, combined into different forms, blade rotates to different positions, basically good fun! The scythe stands over 7' tall, a bit large, not too heavy though. Finish oxidization was a bit rushed in the hotel bathroom to get it finished on time, but overall a very cool project. Huge amount of CAD work, an excessive amount of shop work, definitely not planning on making another one any time soon.

Black Oxidized 5052 Aluminium
260 Yellow Brass (14ga)
Cherry hardwood
MS20470AD3 Aircraft Rivets
Brass and Copper Rivets
Marine Grade Plastic (black blades)

Special thanks to Lady Liline & Jon Lavinder for the SteamCon Photos

Yon maniacal heathen, what monstrosity hast thou wrought?

This thing looks absolutely ridiculous. In all the best possible ways.

Bwa ha ha ha, I love it! You sir, are a man with an exquisite vernacular! It is ridiculous, I really wanted something ridiculous, I am glad the paltry photos are capable of conveying that somewhat ;p

Thank you! SteamCon had no problem. There are no sharp edges on it, I even went out of the way to make sure any cutting edges were high-grade plastic. Still, it looks scary, and that can be a hindrance.

Yeah, I have yet to post much of it, but I've done everything from heavy artillery to small firearms to a steampunk portal-gun, and it's amazing how much trouble security gives me over something that doesn't even resemble a real weapon. I've never tried anything like your scythe, though. Always wanted to, never had the fabrication experience. All of my work comes down to minor manipulations of found parts.

Steampunk is great for found art! Steampunk IS found art for the most part. I am not artistic enough for found art, so I stick to the mechanical design stuff :)

You should look at machining. A basic set of mills and lathes can do some amazing things!

Agreed.

I woudl love to look into machining more, but unfortunately I am an architecture student and have no time or money lol.

Heh, wait til you grad, then you will have money and not time if you get a job, or time and no money if you don't. Both are better eh? :)

lol Thanks for putting up with us! XD We had a great time meeting you and your friends. Are you attending Steamcon this year? We're planning a trip to Everett, for Abney Park and Steam Powered Giraffe, this coming April. Because of that, we won't have a headcount for the big event until reaaaally close to the week before. :P

How does one go about saying hello to the gentleman wielding this in those pictures?

I ran into him at SteamCon, and was hoping to keep in contact.
